The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Tuesday announced a new recruitment pathway for induction into its Technical Branch (Officer Cadre), enabling eligible engineering graduates to apply on the basis of their Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scores.

Under the newly-introduced scheme, candidates possessing a valid GATE score will be eligible for direct shortlisting to appear before the Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs). The move exempts such candidates from appearing in the preliminary written examination, including the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT), for entry into the Technical Branch.

According to the IAF, selection under the GATE-based entry scheme will be carried out strictly on merit. The initiative is aimed at providing an additional avenue for technically qualified candidates aspiring to join the officer cadre of the Air Force.

The service clarified that the GATE Score scheme will be applicable only for induction into the Technical Branch. AFCAT will continue to remain the standard entry examination for recruitment into all branches of the IAF, including the Technical Branch.

The educational qualifications prescribed under the new scheme will remain identical to those currently applicable for Technical Branch induction through AFCAT. The Air Force has also notified the list of acceptable GATE disciplines in the AFCAT Notification.

To ensure greater flexibility for aspirants, the IAF stated that eligible candidates may apply for the Technical Branch through both AFCAT and the GATE Score scheme, depending on their preference and eligibility.

The Air Force advised prospective candidates to refer to the official AFCAT and career portals for detailed information regarding eligibility criteria, accepted GATE subjects and the application process.

The IAF also urged aspiring officers to follow the official social media platforms of DISHA Indian Air Force for regular updates on officer-entry schemes and recruitment-related announcements.
